BACLAYON, BOHOL – Tourists often go to Baclayon to enjoy a picturesque view of the sunset and to get their fix of grilled food at Habhaban Baluarte.

Judging from the number of people coming in even before the restaurant’s personnel have finished setting up, the Habhaban Baluarte is probably one of the most popular restaurants in Baclayon.

The Habhaban Baluarte is in fact the first grill house to set up shop in Baclayon’s seaside area. The restaurant was opened by owner Crecencia Gilay late last year.

If you are in Bohol with a large group, the Habhaban Baluarte is the best place to have dinner or a night cap because of its wide selection of affordable, yet excellent grilled food.

You can have a feast with your P1,000 budget with the restaurant’s wide selection of inihaw items, which are all  well-marinated and grilled just right. You can have isaw (chicken intestine), atay (chicken liver), tenga (pork ears) for only P2.50 a piece.

Prices of grilled chicken thigh and wings and pork liempo start at P20 and an assortment of seafood costs P150 on the maximum. They don’t have any special sauces to go with the grilled food which might disappoint some diners, although the marinade was enough to add a distinct sweetness to the grilled food.

“Habhaban” in the Visayan dialect means “a dining place” or “to eat your heart out.” In Habhaban Baluarte, you can only truly enjoy the experience if you dig in using bare hands.

However, the dining experience becomes even more enticing once the sun sets and tables are laid to give diners a view of the spectacle.

Motorists often stop by the seaside to photograph the sunset. The nearby Baclayon Church and Pamalican Island right in front of the restaurant complement the view.

After a historic and cultural tour of the town, complete your Baclayon trip by savoring the view and the flavors offered by the Habhaban sa Baluarte.
