PASIG CITY, METRO MANILA – Tucked in Pioneer Center is Chatime, which has been getting raves from bubble and milk tea fans for its relaxing ambience and soothing drinks.
Chatime is considered the top bubble and milk tea store in Taiwan. Through Teabros Corp., its exclusive Philippine master franchisee, several Chatime stores have been opened all over the metropolis allowing Filipinos experience authentic tea.
Christopher Cua, Chatime Director for Finance and Franchise Development, explains that bubble and milk teas are very popular in Taiwan and Malaysia. These drinks are gaining a steady following in the Philippines recently due to the health benefits one can get from these drinks.
“Filipinos are adopting the healthy lifestyle and our tastes really adapt easily to products that are recognized globally,” Christopher says. He adds that Chatime does not necessarily compete with coffee shops, but instead “widens” the options of Filipinos who have varied preferences when it comes to beverages.
Only months since they opened the Pioneer branch, Chatime almost instantaneously became a favorite among customers for its pearls and use of real tea leaves in the tea-based drinks.
Michael Koa, Chatime Managing Director, says that they are very particular with the use of the freshest brews and natural ingredients, while putting strong emphasis on authenticity and integrity in the product and service.
“Brewing tea leaves requires a different level of precision since we really have to control the brewing temperature and time to attain the flavor that’s ideal for that specific order,” Michael says.
He explains that they make use of the most advanced “teapresso” machine and batch brewers so that more orders will be done in the short amount of time without compromising flavor.
Customers can choose from the 74 kinds of drinks Chatime currently serves. This may be a little overwhelming at first but staffers will guide you thoroughly until you finally decide what to get.
A training facility is also found in this branch where new employees are trained for at least a month to perfect the mixtures. Michael says real time training and transparency go together in their daily operations.
The Chatime Roasted Milk Tea (P75), Oolong Milk Tea (P75), and the Matcha and Chocolate Mousse Teas (P85), are among the most popular in the menu.
For non-tea drinkers, Chatime also serves fruit syrup based slushies (P55 to P90), smoothies (P55 to P90), and Energetic Health Juices (P55 to P90).
In Chatime, customers are also given the freedom to customize their drinks in terms of choice for toppings, ice options, and even the level of sweetness.
“Being in Chatime is really about chatting and catching up with friends. In here we like customers to feel comfortable and relaxed as opposed to being in a stiff and serious hang out place,” Michael says.
Designed by Ana Marcelo, the spacious lounge features modern European and is given a calming look with subtle, yet bright lighting and accented by the huge white and purple couches and cushion chairs.
The place also makes use of radio frequency identification (RFID)-activated coasters, which vibrate when orders are ready at the claiming area. This system organizes customer orders and minimizes queues for customers who can just relax in the lounge and enjoy their free Internet access via WiFi.
To complement the existing range of authentic flavors, Michael says they are currently finalizing more contemporary flavors for younger customers and customers who have more complex tastes.
“It’s for them to have something new for every visit. Also the variety makes relaxation a lot more exciting,” Michael says.
