QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA – RUB Ribs & BBQ may be one of the newest restaurants near the food and bar strip of Tomas Morato, but with its affordable food and insanely delicious baby back ribs, catching up with the rest wouldn’t be very hard.

Opened just two months ago, RUB Ribs & BBQ is owned by Martin Kabigting and Don Tayag. Coming from a family who owns a resto-bar business, Don takes charge of the business side of RUB while Martin takes care of the food.

When the owners said they intended to establish a stripped down food and place, they weren’t kidding. The place sports a no-frills feel, with only a few framed icons of American history hung against its red and white walls.

Despite the small space, the two-storey restaurant can still accommodate at least 10 to 15 people upstairs, a small group fronting the kitchen and another group in the table outside.

The food is probably what compels diners to go back to RUB. Martin’s straight to the point entrees and specials make ordering fast, which is ideal since their food takes a while before it is served.

You should be ready to indulge when dining at RUB. The enormous baby back ribs come in Single (P195) or for sharing servings like the Super Duo (P350) and the Family Brunch (P650). All these choices include a unique spicy ranch sauce and your choice of sidings like Bacon & Potato Salad and Roasted Garlic Mashed Potato to name a few.

The ribs have a distinct spice and as one devours this huge slab of perfectly grilled and tenderized piece of meat, one can immediately smell and taste its smoky goodness.

Martin said he simply applies the technique of dry-rubbing a special mixture of spices to the rib and then marinates it for at least three hours. He uses locally produced pork which when grilled over charcoal possess similar taste to imported meat.

The spiced rice called Sprice is a highly recommended siding instead of ordering plain rice. Don’t fret since it only has that hint of spice which perfectly complements the ribs.

RUB Ribs & BBQ also serves a couple of pasta dishes like the Cajun Chicken Pasta (P170) which has a sharp spicy scent characteristic of Cajun cuisine.

After a heavy fix of ribs, guests can enjoy bottles of booze which go well with their Nibbles like Fish and Chips (P230) or Buffalo Chicken Wings (P255) to name a few. These don’t fall short on flavor either and all come in generous servings which gives more value to your money.
