CARAMOAN, CAMARINES SUR – It’s not exactly located near the beach but Sea Porch aims to compliment their seafood specialties with the appropriate ambiance.
Its owner Caramoan native Myrna Nuñez really intended for their restaurant to have a seaside dining ambiance, according to resident cook Joy Eboña.
The restaurant indeed has a “native” feel to it but like a modern beach house. It was as if a lighthouse was perched somewhere outside but in reality, it was just tucked in a small area, fenced by wooden planks and enveloped in garden plants.
Joy says the owner is well-traveled and her taste greatly influenced the restaurant’s design.
But the biggest draw at Sea Porch is their seafood, particularly the inihaw na pusit (grilled squid) – relatively cheap at P270 for 600 grams. Joy tells me it comes with a “secret” dressing.
You’ll be surprised how far your P500 will go at Sea Porch. The Sinigang na Malasugui (Blue Marlin in sour broth) is already good for 2-3 people at P80.
A generous serving of Bihon Guisado costs P65. Joy tends her own organic farm right behind the restaurant. I would not recommend the Bicol Express because it simply isn’t spicy enough contrary to what I expected.
What I would definitely recommend is the Tuna Sisig (P80) – thick and savory tuna flakes that tastes good despite the lack of spice. Tuna tends to become soggy when cooked improperly but not this one.
I could not help but commend Joy for their inexpensive food. She says the owners wanted for the benefit locals like her. She says the price remains the same since they opened a year ago but the number of employees has grown.
She is hoping more tourists will come in and keep this humble family-owned business alive so it can employ more locals like her.
“Sea Porch is like our second home and we want our guests feel the same way.”
