BORACAY, AKLAN –Since 1996, Real Coffee and Tea Café continues to be popular among tourists in this island paradise for its espresso and unique calamansi muffins.

The famous calamansi muffin is the personal creation of the café owner, Lee Rosaia, an Italian-American who, like many expats, fell in love and decided to settle in Boracay.

Situated along Station 1, Real Coffee and Tea Café is built in a bahay-kubo. The bamboo interiors give the café that distinctly native appeal and the aroma of rich coffee and cream coming from it is irresistible to tourists.

The calamansi muffin is often described as a perfect harmony of the crisp outer layers, and the moist, sour tang inside.

Foodbanquet writes that this taste gives one a feeling of “ambrosia.” He adds that it was evident that the muffins were made with delicateness and passion.

Manileño writes that Real Coffee and Tea Café calamansi muffins are deceivingly filling and with gentle flavors. Brian Ong of Philippines and Beyond finds the consistency and the texture of the calamansi muffin fitting especially when paired with the café’s house blend of double-shot espresso coffee.

Unfortunately, these muffins are exclusively sold in the island. However, you can ask friends headed there to bring back a box for you. One muffin costs P45 and a dozen costs about P560.

While the calamansi muffins are the bestsellers, Real Coffee and Tea Café also serves home-style American dishes such as Jack’s Omelette (P275) and Zesto Pesto (P195).

On your next visit to Bora, you might want to try these delectable calamansi muffins.
