PILILLA, RIZAL – No one would’ve guessed that this sleepy town has been hiding a lakeside attraction that has become a favorite among hungry travelers.

Good food can be found at the Bulawan Floating Restaurant resting on the still waters of Laguna Lake. The restaurant is owned by husband and wife Joey and Nora Virrey who were both overseas Filipinos workers (OFWs).

Since the restaurant opened in 1997, it has been gathering positive feedback from patrons mainly because of the restaurant’s food and its location.

One of the most popular items on the menu of Bulawan Floating Restaurant is Joey’s Mixed Sinigang with the freshest crabs and prawns and tamarind for that sour flavor of the broth.

There are also dishes using catfish, kanduli, and mudfish or dalag which are all highly-commended by patrons.

The lake is filled with fish which the diners can catch and buy for only P80 a kilo. An average meal which includes a variety of grilled, deep-fried and stewed seafood can be had at P200 to P500. The restaurant also serves non-seafood traditional Filipino dishes.

Bulawan Floating Restaurant is perched three feet above the 1.2 hectare fishpond and interconnected by pavements. Due to the after effects of Typhoon Milenyo years ago, some restorations are still being done on the place.

But more than a favorite dining place for travelers looking for affordable and fresh seafood in a very unique location, the Bulawan Floating Restaurant is a success story of two former OFWs who strived to reach their dreams.
