TAGUM CITY, DAVAO DEL NORTE – Lucila Rubino’s family is prominent in Davao for the family’s many business interests from financing, furniture, and appliance.

Back then, Lucila had no plans of putting up a business on food, until a member of the family got ill-stricken. Lucila would “experiment” with flavors from different fruits which she would then give to sick relatives. She would make spreads and fruit juices using only indigenous raw ingredients.

“When it worked, she found herself making a business out of her hobby,” shares Dave Gino, Marketing Officer for Lucille’s Food Products.

With the goal of maximizing the limited resources of her hometown, Lucila used carrots, calamans, and durian as the main ingredients of her unique spreads.

Through this venture, Dave says Lucila was able to market not only innovative food products, but also the high nutritional value and benefits which could be obtained from these fruits.

Dave adds that Lucille’s Food Products was able to do away with the repulsive smell of the durian by using only the natural extract and not the meat of the fruit. This way, Dave says they can promote durian as a genuinely enjoyable snack.

Aside from the peanut butter and other spreads, Lucille’s Food Products also sells Carrot Calamansi Juice for P85.

For these products, Lucille’s Food Products became a household name in Tagum.
