QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA – Banawe Street has always been well-known for its numerous car shops. But this bustling commercial strip is also home to numerous vegetarian restaurants such as Daily Veggie ‘N Café.
Opened in 2001, Daily Veggie ‘N Café offers healthier alternatives for people who are into the challenging lifestyle of vegetarianism.
The interiors are simple with only five tables for diners. The majority of the space is occupied by racks of frozen packed and bottled vegetarian food.
I was welcomed by the friendly personnel who gladly offered me a tall glass of house tea while she took my order. I found it hard to decide what to get since the last time I tried to abstain from meat, I ended up running to the nearest burger chain.
I ended up ordering the Sizzling Steak Rice (P93) which went well with the Soya Milk (P25). Just when I thought I could cheat on the diet by ordering something that looked closest to the usual meat that I love to eat, this version didn’t taste like its meat counterpart at all.
The patty was made from processed vegetables and for an omnivore, had a bland taste. Thanks to the mushroom sauce, the taste is slightly similar to French fries.
The Soya Milk as I’ve expected made me feel healthier in a snap. The sweetness was just right and it tasted a lot fresher than the mass produced soya milk in grocery shelves.
Interestingly, Daily Veggie ‘N Café was packed with monks, having their fill of vegan dishes.
If you’re not ready to embrace the vegan lifestyle, maybe the food selections can help you slowly work your way through a healthier eating habit.
Daily Veggie ‘N Café also sells all sorts of 100 percent organic food from eggs and food sauces to vegan tocino and tapa.
Personally, I think I am not cut out for conversion to a vegan lifestyle just yet. I am sure though that I will be coming back to Daily Veggie ‘N Café to have my fill of healthier food.
