LOS BAÑOS, LAGUNA— Herb Republic restaurant is popular among diners looking for organic vegetables and organic meat dishes.

Located along the National Road in Los Baños, motorists often drop by this restaurant before continuing their journey to Manila.

Herb Republic is owned by brothers Herbert, Homer, and Rainer Pantua. The restaurant was previously a farm that sells organically-grown vegetables.

The brothers eventually put up the restaurant in April 2009 aiming to promote the advantages of eating organic vegetables and organic meat such as pork and chicken.

According to Pearl Pantua, all the items in the menu are organic. “Most people would visit just to taste the organic chicken that we serve,” Pearl says.

She says embracing an organic lifestyle “is like embracing your health and your family’s health” and you also help save the environment.

We visited Herb Republic for lunch after our field coverage in Sariaya, Quezon. Unfortunately, chicken was not available, so we ordered tuna belly instead.

While waiting for our order, we had lemon grass tea which is served for free. The ambiance was cozy and simple.

Aside from the tuna, we also tried basil mushroom soup and meat sauce pasta to complete our meal. The pasta has a light flavor probably because alternative organic flavoring was used instead of the usual seasonings available in the market.

Aside from the organic dishes, the restaurant also sells other organic products like vegetables and meat if you want to take home some and cook organic dishes yourself.
