CEBU CITY, CEBU- The last time I visited my hometown, I asked my brother to take me to Larsian, a place I can bravely call as the home of the best-tasting barbeque in Cebu.
Though the food still tasted a lot like when I first tasted it years ago, the place is now far from how it looked back then.
About 10 years ago, there were only a few tables all lined-up against the wall. The grill was literally an arm’s length away from where I was seated.
Larsian used to be a hole-in-the-wall place but attracted a lot of customers, rich or poor, because their barbecue was insanely good.
All pimped up with festive lamps over more tables, Larsian has now more than ever become a number once choice for both locals and travelers in town. If you have sensitive eyes, expect a “teary” dining experience as thick clouds of smoke from all the grilling will have you shedding tears over the goodness of the food.
If you’re coming in as a group, I suggest you assign someone to occupy a table right away while the rest head straight for the cooking area where you will find rows of grilling stations.
I must say that I haven’t quite tried any barbeque that tastes like Larsian’s. Whether chicken, pork or the insides of both, its vendors have maintained the distinct flavor that’s made even flavorful with their special sauce called “The Dicer”.
I don’t really know what’s in this gravy-like sauce but it complements the firmness of the barbeque. Knowing what it’s mad of is the least of my concerns.
For 500 pesos, a group of six can enjoy a variation of barbeque of their choice with a couple of puso rice (steamed rice wrapped in banana leaves) and two big bottles of soda for the win. The fun part is eating with bare hands.
If only for the wonderful memories I have of my hometown, Larsian tops my list of must-visit places for foodies when in Cebu.
