CEBU CITY, CEBU –Ginabot is a favorite dish among yuppies while eating at Cebu’s popular pungko-pungko stalls.

Ginabot is basically the Visayan version of the chicharon bulaklak. This dish is made from pig intestines, which is salted, dried and then deep-fried so that it becomes the crispy flower-shaped finger food.

This dish is considered as one of the best-tasting street foods in Cebu and even those who can afford to eat at fancy restaurants have learned to crave for it.

Among pungko-pungko stalls in the city, the ones in Mabolo Street are the most in demand for their excellent ginabot.

In the same makeshift “squat” eateries, other special finger foods like the ngohiong, lumpia, and chorizo are also served with the always reliable food staple called puso or steamed rice in coconut leaves.

For just 10 to 15 pesos, one could enjoy a full uncomplicated meal with the ginabot. With its economical yet satisfying value, there’s no question why diners continue to flock to eating stalls and order this dish.

Another way of eating the ginabot without having to worry too much about your health is crushing it, and used as subak or toppings for nilangang monggo.

Despite the calories and saturated fat, ginabot is part of the communal dining experience that takes place in the sidewalks of Cebu. In your next visit to Cebu, don’t forget to give the ginabot a try.

  1. It’s really fulfilling to eat chicharong bulaklak but it’s not friendly to my mouth. I get sores after I eat them. :(
