PILI, CAMARINES SUR— There was always something about handcrafted products that appealed to Luz Frivaldo.

“I developed a passion for handcrafting when I was in high school. Ever since, I already saw myself venturing into this kind of industry,” she says.

Marfel Handicrafts has been in the local market for more than two decades and has grown to a social enterprise over the years.

“We started out as a small family business. Now we also help provide a source of income for local communities who help us in the processing to handcrafting our pieces,” Luz adds.

Nito vines, water hyacinth and bamboo are turned to bags, wine holders and home decors, to name some of their products.

But more than making a profit, her  business also seek to promote the abundant raw materials that can be found in the Bicol region through their handicrafts.

“Our country is blessed with a lot of natural resources. This is why we continue to find and encourage the use of materials that we can say are unique particularly here and in other regions as well,” Luz says.
