Tech startup conference highlights Filipino ingenuity

TAGUIG CITY, METRO MANILA –  A group of technology startup experts, venture capitalists, academic professionals will converge at the Meridian International Business, Arts & Technology College (MINT) on October 21 to 23 for the country’s first  Startup Weekend Manila.

The event is both a technology training camp and business development conference. Its goal is to create startup companies that have commercially viable web and mobile applications.

Several of the country’s top technology professionals will be on hand to facilitate the even, including Proudcloud Founder and CEO Jay Fajardo, Huwego founder and MINT Advisor Arnold Alagar, Jonathan Lansangan who is the COO of Java and Android development firm Dynamix Objx and Microsoft Director for Business Management Alvin Gendrano.

Aside from training activities, startup firms will also attend product pitches, which follow a similar trend in Silicon Valley wherein companies would showcase their products to potential investors.

MINT has hosted a similar activity early this year, which is among the viable activities for potential startups to find investors.

Some competitions will also be conducted that will give winners software development tools that enables them to work their software products.

Startup activities such as those held in MINT have started to become more common especially as innovations in the technology industry become more needed with the growth of Internet use on both desktop and mobile platforms.

There have been a number of Filipino companies who have received financial assistance from venture capitalist in the Philippines and abroad to turn their concepts into commercial applications.

Capital could range from around to $10,000 to over $100,000 depending on the product.
