PASIG CITY, METRO MANILA – The Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI) has announced the start of the “Car of the Year Award” and is highlighting the entry of new, smaller vehicles that have fast become an option for the budget-conscious buyer.
Categories for this year’s awards are still being deliberated. However the criteria for participation are all vehicles from sub-compact, compact, mid-size, to higher cars such as sports utility vehicles, pick-ups, vans, trucks, among others.
The nominated cars will be examined based on several attributes, such as aesthetics, ergonomics, NVH (noise, vibration, and harness), ride comfort, and space. The vehicles will also be tested for acceleration, braking distance, and handling over a 120 meter course.
Eligible vehicles are those made from November 10 to October 31. CAGI officials will do their tests of the vehicles from September to October.
The winning cars will then be announced in April 2012 during the Manila International Auto Show at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
CAGI President Ferman Lao said that despite the slowdown in car sales in 2011 the entry of small, fuel efficient cars have provided positive growth for the automotive industry in the Philippines.
Lao stressed that many Filipino buyers are becoming more aware of rising fuel prices, which makes its important to have them know what cars are available to suit their needs and tastes.
“I believe that through COTY-PH, motoring journalists can provide useful information to Filipino consumers to guide their purchase decisions,” Lao said.
