BAGUIO CITY, BENGUET – Baguio City has formally created the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Council that would steer the city’s ICT direction, particularly in terms of it being a preferred location for business process outsourcing (BPOs).
Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan signed Administrative Order No. 70 (series 2011) that creates the ICT Council. Domogan himself will chair the ICT Council along with the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT). The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Baguio City Planning Office would serve as Secretariat of the ICT Council.
The Baguio City ICT Council is also joined by members of the city’s academic institutions, existing BPO firms, telecommunications providers, and non-government institutions.
Specific members include Saint Louis University (SLU), University of Baguio(UB), University of the Cordilleras (UC),National Institute of Information and Technology ( NIIT), AMA Baguio, Data Center Computer Philippines.

In a statement, Domogan said that having an ICT Council would immediately address the concerns of the ICT sector and to improve services that would result in better opportunities for Baguio residents.
“The Regional Development Plan identified two Key Focus Areas (KFAs) which has a critical impact on ICT namely: Physical Integration and Knowledge and Agri-based industries. It is expected that the ICT component on these KFAs will influence the region’s goods and services to be more globally competitive.”
The administration of Baguio has also been upgrading some of its services using ICT. For instance, it is integrating Google Maps into the its location-based services. It is also using social networks and online forums to get comments from the public.
