MALOLOS CITY, BULACAN— More than 700 farmers here completed their training from a Farmers Field School (FSS) on how to increase farm productivity and rice yield.

The program is funded by the European Union through the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It is jointly implemented by the Department of Agriculture and local government units in Bulacan and aims to alleviate the plight of farmers in rainfall-heavy areas.

Farmers who have undergone hands-on training came from the towns of Angat, San Rafael, San Ildefonso, and San Miguel.

They were taught by experts from PhilRice, Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), and municipal agriculturists on technology demonstration, integrated crop management, and pest control.

Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado handed certificates of recognition to the farmers during closing ceremonies along with bags of palay seeds. They were also provided with small scale irrigation facilities such as electric motor pumps and gasoline motor pumps.

“In order to help our farmers in rainfed areas, the provincial government extends its support through the provision of seeds and fertilizers as well as conduct trainings to our farmers,” said Sy-Alvarado.

“This will also help in enhancing food security of our province and our country in general,” the governor added.
