MAKATI CITY, METRO MANILA – In 2007, the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP) envisioned that the Philippines will become a major global hub for offshore outsourcing services.
The original expectation, as stated in its original Philippines Roadmap 2010, was to achieve a $13 billion growth and hiring nearly one million Filipinos.
This was eventually revised with the BPO Roadmap 2010-2016 after global industries took a beating from the financial crunch that started in the US.
Still, the overall outsource industry in the Philippines ended the year with nearly $9 billion in total revenue.
But expectations remain high for the local outsourcing industry and plans are underway to ensure the country’s continued sustainability and high reputation as an outsourcing hub.
At the upcoming International Outsourcing Summit 2011, BPAP executives said the event will focus on new locations, as well as growth in non-voice services.
Raymond Lacdao, BPAP Executive Director for Industry Affairs, said the Philippines is moving up in the value chain, beyond voice and back office services.
The summit will review what the local outsourcing industry had done in the past few years and what else are expected to happen.
“The theme of the Summit–Global Market Leaders Addressing Global Issues–will focus on innovation and value creation. Clients expect services providers to be their partners in enhancing value for their customers,” Lacdao said.
Gillian Joyce Virata, BPAP senior executive director, said the event is expected to be attended by 400 executives from 20 countries. The event will be held on October 11 to 12 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Manila.
BPAP is the umbrella organization of the country’s outsourcing industry. It currently has around 200 members firms from the call center sector, software development, transcription, animation, back office support, and game development.
