SAN JUAN, METRO MANILA – Don’t you just hate it when you see a gorgeous pair of shoes in a store only to find out it’s too small for your feet?
Irish Aguinaldo has had the same dilemna for years so she decided to open her own shoe business called Feetish.
“I just really wanted to create something that would answer to the frustration of girls who, like me, don’t exactly have the most petite feet to fit on those perfect shoes,” says the registered nurse, who opened her business last July.
A self-proclaimed impulsive shoe shopper, Irish recalls the time she realized that in her search for the trendiest designs, she has been sacrificing comfort.
This is exactly what she wants to instill in women like her who are fed up with spending too much on something they end up wearing only once.
“Especially with ladies who have bigger feet than the usual, its harder to look for bigger-sized shoes that would actually give them both the style and the comfort,” she explains.
“I wanted my line to lessen that deprivation,” says Irish, whose efforts have earned praise from bloggers who commend her consideration for women with bigger feet.
Her line includes sleek, colorful oxfords, strappy flat sandals and high-heels (she jokingly refers to a pair as “The Prism”), Irish says she already has customers who find her shoes comfortable.
She designs shoes that are one or two sizes bigger than the normal size of ladies shoes. A pair costs between 500 to 1,500 pesos.
Irish sources her materials from Marikina and employs local shoemakers. She says she uses the same material used by high-end shoe brands found in malls but her products are almost half the price.
She tries to come up with a new design every week or at least improve on an existing pair. This way, she hopes to keep customers interested to make up for the lack of physical store.
“My shoes are for those who look for style but smart enough to spend on shoes that actually serve their purpose,” she says.
