QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA –More and more Filipino inventors are delving into health and wellness inventions because of the potential of these products particularly for micro entrepreneurs.
With the offshoot of organic and herbal products out in the market today, the Quezon City government is tapping both start-up entrepreneurs and potential investors to consider investing on these products.
The Quezon City government recently held the 1st Quezon City Inventors Expo and Trade Fair, which showed the marketability of health and wellness products.
Trade fare goers flocked to stalls offering first energized fashion jewelry, herbal products and medicine, and organic consumables all made by Filipino inventors.
“The exhibits showcased healthy herbal products that have been made accessible to the growing healthy-conscious consuming public. These kinds of innovative products must be supported by the local government unit (LGU) to complement their existing health programs and services,” said Quezon City Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte.
The health and wellness products are also seen as a response to the practical health and wellness requirements of every Filipino consumer.
In a statement, the Sikap Buhay Entrepreneurship & Cooperative office head Marlyn Siapno said that the timing of the promotion of health and wellness inventions is perfect given the change in the consumer’s attitude toward their health.
“As prices of medicines spiral, Filipinos have given focus to preventive health care, as an important investment for their time and money. Yet, most Filipinos lack all the important preventive services they need — that is, screening tests for early findings of disease, as well as immunizations, and education about healthy habits,” said Siapno.
In the first quarter of the year 2009, an estimated 3.1% decline in household income and consumption has been reported.
This means that almost half of the population has minimal or no access to basic forms of health care and one out of two Filipinos die due to the lack of medical services.
