GERONA, TARLAC – They say the Philippines has the the longest Christmas season, starting as early as September. But this sleepy town is already bustling with Christmas lanterns as early as August.
Barangay Caturay in Gerona is home to about 30 or so Christmas lantern makers, many of whom have been in business for almost 50 years. They are, in fact, competing with the lantern makers of San Fernando, Pampanga, which prides itself as the “Christmas capital” of the Philippines.
