TAGUIG CITY, METRO MANILA – Internet services firm Yahoo! has signed up Filipino new media company Filquest Media Concepts, Inc. to provide content about this year’s presidential elections.
Under the partnership, loQal.ph, owned and operated by Filquest Media, will initially deliver election-related multimedia content – articles, photos and videos – that will become part of Yahoo!’s Purple Thumb webpage devoted to the national elections.
The partnership intends to come up with a lot more local content pertaining to the elections, such as issues affecting Filipinos in small communities.
Filquest Media president Diether Ocampo says loQal.ph was founded to fill this void for local content on the Web.
“It started out as a hobby but we saw that something like loQal.ph can give people an opportunity to be heard and to share their stories,” says Ocampo, a renowned actor and businessman. “There are many stories that people in specific communities find interesting, which, in turn, can also be interesting for Filipinos elsewhere,”
Yahoo! Philippines country editor Erwin Oliva says the partnership was hinged on this goal of reaching out to smaller communities
“Yahoo! is trying to beef up its content. Essentially, we’re going local by reaching out to these small communities. Our partnership with loQal.ph was just a logical approach,” Oliva says.
