QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA— Klub Natur was founded by Allen Mayor and was meant to be a venue for photography and travel enthusiasts to promote “virgin” destinations, or those rich in biodiversity and culture but not often visited by tourists, even locals.

Arnold Manzana, a long-time member of Klub Natur, said they initially began traveling with students from Philippine Women’s University (PWU) in 1992 until they started welcoming other interested travelers.

While they go beyond the usual tourist spots, the group does what it can to help the local tourism authorities to promote places they’ve been to.

“One of the places that we initially helped to promote is the Palaui Island, it was just amazing and memorable for us,” said Manzana.

“We are proud that we contribute in promoting these places. There’s a big difference between seeing the photos we took and really seeing up close what’s in there and be able to get along with the locals.”

Most of them spend for their trips but they are sometimes get accommodated by the local government or get sponsored by private companies. “But regardless, being able to show the world these unexplored places is priceless for us,” says Manzana.

For those interested to join the group, Arnold says they do not require monetary fees.

“All you need is to have the same passion like we have and believe that your photos can be your best form of expressing your love for nature and for our country.”
