MAKATI CITY, METRO MANILA – TV host Daphne Oseña-Paez encourages Filipinos to help implement projects for education, nutrition and protection of Filipino children.
In partnership with United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), Daphne organized an online auction that gathers artists and photographers who personally donated artworks for this cause.
Items for auction include those by Benji Reyes, Vico Selma, Debbie Palao, Ito Kish and famous Cebuano furniture designer Kenneth Cobunpue. Daphne herself donated items for bidding.
There are also sculptures from Ramon Orlina, Seb Chua and Juvenal Sanso, as well as paintings from Dominic Rubio, Hamzah Mrbella, Popo San Pascual, Araceli Limcaco Dans, Manny Baldemor, Billy Mondonedo, and Tom Epperson.
The auction, which will be held May 25 at Greenbelt in Makati City, will also go live online on via www.ebay.ph/unicef.
Contrary to what most people might think, Daphne said Unicef does not get funds from the UN and relies on voluntary contributions to carry out its projects.
“We hope that through this online auction of Filipino designer pieces, we would be able to raise the awareness that Filipinos can take an active role in funding procjects for our children,” she said.
Through voluntary donations in 2010, Unicef provided assistance to 435 daycare centers, 227 home-based sites and provided learning services on horseback to remote areas in Mindanao.
Some 40 percent of Filipino children are living in poverty and had limited if no access at all to good sanitation, healthy food and education, according to Unicef.
