QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA— The Bulwagan ng Dangal at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman houses the works of great Filipino artists under one roof.
Rubén Defeo, a professor at the College of Fine Arts and the museum’s curator, spearheaded efforts to create the museum, inaugurated in 2009.
Located at the basement of the University Library, the 620-square meter museum houses art pieces from various state university campuses including UP Diliman, UP Manila, UP Los Baños, UP Baguio and UP Visayas.
But the museum’s biggest draw remain the works of national artists like Napoleon Abueva, Fernando Amorsolo, Benedicto Cabrera, Carlos Francisco, Abdulmari Imao, Jose Joya, Cesar Legaspi, Vicente Manansala and Guillermo Tolentino.
The museum also aims to exhibit the works of contemporary artists. Currently on exhibit are the works of Filipino artists, collectively called The Bozzetos, whose works were previously exhibited in Florence, Italy.
The Bozzetos exhibit will run at the Bulwagan ng Dangal until March 31 as part of the ongoing Philippine International Arts Festival.
