QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA-The Quezon City Performing Arts (QCPA) group was awarded the “Best Cultural Group” at the 23rd Annual Aliw Awards 2010 held in October.
The group bested four nationally and internationally-acclaimed performing groups including Tanghalang St. Louis University of Baguio City, Himig Ariel Scholars of Quezon City, St. Dominic Savio College Cultural Group of Caloocan City, Sining Kabpapagariya of General Santos City and Dagway Sigmahanon from the province of Capiz.
It is the QCPA’s third Aliw Award. The group first won in 2002, as the “Best Cultural Dance Group.” The group won its second “Aliw Award in 2007, as the “Best Dance Company in Classical and Contemporary Dance.”
The Aliw Awards is given by the Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. to recognize the best in the entertainment industry.
Every year, live performers onstage and from the concert scene compete in different categories including the most coveted “Entertainment of the Year Award.”
The QCPA is a performing arts group supported by the Quezon City Government and is directly under Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte. It trains gifted and artistically-inclined underprivileged children from the city and train them in dance, voice, and musical instruments.
Aside from the technical training, the QCPA also strives to instill underprivileged children with pride in themselves, help them discover their self-worth, and develop in them the importance of disciple, hard work and the philosophy of excellence.
The QCPA is being managed by the Quezon City Performing Arts Development Foundation, Inc.
