TACLOBAN, LEYTE – “Tinikling” is perhaps the most famous Filipino folk dance and yet continues to evolve through the years even after more than four centuries.
It is said to have originated from the province of Leyte and was was inspired by the movement of “tikling” birds as they dodge and walk between bamboo traps set by rice farmers. Local folks back then were mesmerized by the bird’s grace and speed and started to imitate the bird’s skillful movements.
