QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA – Filipino singing sensation Charice Pempengco is now officially a “Gleek” after appearing on the second season premiere episode of American hit TV show Glee.
The season 2 opener, titled Audition, aired Wednesday afternoon on local cable channel ETC. Charice sang Beyonce’s hit song Listen from the movie Dreamgirls as her audition piece.
In the show, Charice plays the role of Filipino foreign exchange student Sunshine Corazon who will raise apprehension among other gleeks, particularly Lea Michele’s character Rachel Berry.
On Twitter, her alter-ego Sunshine Corazon has become a top trending topic. Replying to Charice on Twitter, glee gleeks tweeted: “You did amazing on the show. Cheers to continued success!”
Blogger Andresito Velato wrote that Glee is known for its artists having “various ethnicities” and adds that Charice will help showcase Filipino talent
The author of the blog titled A Can of Coke fears that Charice might be outshined by the rest of the Glee cast in terms of acting.
“Most people (including me) are worrying about is her acting. She can be compared to Lea Michelle or Amber Riley and even do better in terms of singing but she will be drowned with her acting and a number of other reasons.”
