Chapter Six: Fool Circle from Marc Jonathan de Jesus on Vimeo.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – A Filipino-American based here is one of the finalists in a short-film competition sponsored by Canon and video-sharing company Vimeo.
Marc Jonathan de Jesus of Fullerton, California made it to the finals with his four-minute film “Fool Circle Chapter Six.”
Filmmakers who joined the “The Story Beyond the Still” contest made their own interpretations based on the Canon still photo.
“I’m so excited,” 33-year-old Marc Jonathan de Jesus of Fullerton, California said, “considering the legendary judges that voted for me and also the film festival and academy award implications.”
De Jesus said the winning four-minute films or chapters were voted on first by a prestigious panel of judges that included “Titanic” cinematographer Russell Carpenter, “Star Wars” producer Rick McCallum and Rodney Charters, director of photography for the television show “24.”
The overall winner will be determined by the most votes submitted by members of the Vimeo website (vimeo.com). Anyone can sign up for free at the website to cast his or her vote. Voting starts July 27 till July 31.
De Jesus’ movie can be viewed at www.FoolCircleMovie.com or at http://vimeo.com/groups/beyondthestill
After the contest, the winning chapters will be edited into the “largest collaborative film effort in history,” according to sponsors Canon and Vimeo, and entered into film festivals including Sundance in Park City, Utah, and submitted to the Academy Awards.
De Jesus said he acted as producer, writer, editor and director for his short film. Most of the hundreds of other contestants had a staff that included dozens of people, he said.
De Jesus is no stranger to awards, and has in fact won the 2010 Telly Award in Cinematography June.
Founded in 1979, according to de Jesus, “the Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and web commercials, videos and films.”
