MAKATI CITY, METRO MANILA—Singer/composer Rico Blanco says he is excited to be part of the fantaserye ‘Imortal’ soon to be airing on primetime television.

Yung teleserye ang pagkakaabalahan ko in the coming months. It’s been a long time since I did acting for an indie film. May konting kaba pero mas na-override ng excitement. I am very excited and curious and interested in things—how do they make TV shows and movies. So here I am finding out first hand kung paano nga ba,” says the former Rivermaya lead singer.

Imortal is one of ABS-CBN’s latest projects this year. The fantaserye will be the sequel to Lobo, a previous teleserye about werewolves. Blanco, now a solo musician, adds he is also excited to work with actors Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz.

“Angel and John Lloyd are up there, if ever I was asked (of actors I wanted to work with) I don’t think about it on a daily basis. Considering Angel and JL are cream of the crop and I’m excited,” he says.

Blanco isn’t exactly new to acting. In 2006, he played a role in Unitel Pictures’ digital movie entitled “Nasaan si Francis?” alongside seasoned actors Jeffrey Quizon, Paolo Contis, Christopher De Leon, Rio Locsin and Ricky Davao. Blogger iampopular gave Blanco a thumbs up for his performance in the indie film.

What made him decide to accept the project for Imortal?

Matagal na rin akong iniimbitahan. I think baka dumating lang yung tamang time and project ngayon at hindi naman agad kasi pinag isipan din ng mabuti (bago ko tinanggap ang project). I am very thankful also na yung interest ng network is always there through the years,” he answers.

So is he ready for the intrigues  that could link him and his co-star Angel Locsin? (Locsin, incidentally, received an International Emmy nomination for her performance in Lobo)

Handa naman na kung anu-anong kasama sa job but I’ve a lot of faith in the maturity of journalists these days. They know I am going to be an actor and acting is what I’m gonna be doing so I’m ready for that and excited,” says Blanco, who .

He says his relationship for two years with his non-showbiz girlfriend won’t be affected by intrigues and that they are ready for it.

To prepare for the tapings and production, Blanco joined several acting workshops under the mentorship of acclaimed director Laurice Guillen. During his acting workshop with Angel, the young musician is all praises about the latter’s simplicity.

On his career as a musician, Blanco says he will still continue to do concerts on weekends. His debut international album “Your Universe”—released in Singapore and Hong Kong—has gained a strong following especially his single “Lights” that topped radio charts in Hong Kong.
