MANILA CITY, METRO MANILA—When we think of the skinniest person on local television, comedian Palito always comes to mind. But today (April 12) , the comedian who once gave us laughter, has finally stepped out of his spotlight.
At the age of 76, Reynaldo Hipolito, also known as Palito, died at the Philippine General Hospital due to complications to the lungs, liver and heart. Early reports say the comedian was confined in Imus Family Hospital after complaining of severe stomach pain but was eventually transferred to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). Celebrity friends and colleagues were generous enough to offer financial support to the family according to pinoygossipboy.ph.
Palito was known for his unusually thin figure. He was especially active in show business during the 80s, most of the time, as the ever reliable sidekick of comedy king, Dolphy. He played lead role in several movies that give parody to American action films — ‘Rambuto’ and ‘James Bone’.
Palito’s last movie project was an independent film in 2005 entitled, ‘Enterpool: Senior Citizen in Action’.
Many are saddened by the comedian’s death like writer and photographer, Francis Brew Reyes who wrote in his blog that Palito should be given proper tribute for his immense contribution to Philippine comedy.
We may no longer see him in movies but Palito will forever hold his stature as one of the funniest and finest comedians in the local scene. May we all pray for his soul and may his family be able to cope with their loss.
