QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA— Singer-actress Sarah Geronimo, who despite being an endorser of a shampoo brand which promotes growing smooth, long hair, opted to cut her hair in support of cancer patients suffering from hair loss.
Although fans and local press speculated that her change of hair style was the celebrity’s way of coping with frustration on her love life, Sarah was quick to admit in an interview at the talk show, The Buzz, and showbiz website, Pep.ph, that it was done for a cause and that her hair will be donated to the US-based organization called, Locks of Love.
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 21 and younger with medical hair loss. Its operation began in 1998, and thousands of bundles of donated hair arrived as a result of its campaigns on the internet and by word of mouth. The organization was also highly publicized on newspapers, magazines and television programs.
Ate Sarah, as most young fans would call her, donated her hair through hair stylist Jing Monis.
According to Locks of Love, a donated hair is evaluated for its usefulness following their imposed guideline. It should be at least 10 inches in length, bundled in a pony tail or braid, free from bleach and it must be clean and dry. Hair should be placed in a plastic bag and mailed to their address.
Other foreign celebrities also support Locks of Love like Russell Crowe, Portia de Rossi, Ann Curry, Katie Couric and Hillary Swank.
